With the festive season well and truly over and new years resolutions in full swing, January can seem like a month for hibernating with no chance of socialising. But there are plenty of events and amazing performances this months that will shake those January blues. The ‘new year new me’ can wait until next year, so check out these great gigs that you won’t want to miss.
Massive Attack – 19th & 20th of January – Olympia theatre
Kicking us off are Massive Attack who are performing on the 19th in the Olympia Theatre. The English trio have just announced a second date on the 20th due to great demand for tickets. This promises to be a great performance and second round tickets are likely to sell out fast. So don’t delay if you want to see these guys in action.
Gavin James – 21st – 23rd January – Olympia theatre
If Massive Attack aren’t to your taste then you might enjoy Gavin James. Gavin has recently been on tour supporting Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran but has now returned home to perform a 3 date show at the Olympia. The Dublin man has had huge success with his new album Bitter Pill which was one of the best selling Irish albums of 2015.
Fun Lovin Criminals – 29th January – Vicar Street
Im sure many people are familiar with this band. They have been performing all over the world since the the mid 90’s and are best known for their hit song “Scooby Snacks”. They are currently on tour in Europe and will be stopping off in Ireland on the 29th. Their unique sound combined with their experience performing live means this show is sure to be electric.
The Strypes – 30th January – Olympia Theatre
This band are a perfect example of the young talent that is emerging in Ireland at the moment. The band debuted on the Late Late Toy Show in 2010 which helped to launch their public profile. Since then they have released an EP which went to number one on the Itunes Blues chart. I had the pleasure of seeing these guys perform at a small gig in Kildare a few months ago and was blown away by the level of talent. All members are between the ages of 18-20 but their unique style and confidence makes them appear as if they have been performing for years. The Strypes are definitely one to watch in the future.
Fleetwood Mac – 31st January – TBC
This final gig has yet to be confirmed but rumours of Fleetwood Mac performing in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre has sparked a lot of public interest. The group are currently on a world tour but all dates have not yet been announced. This would be an incredible way to round off the month and I am praying the event will be confirmed soon. I will keep you updated on any news surrounding the event.
There it is. The top 5 gigs for January. Plenty of great artists to see and a great excuse to get out and about this month.
