If you were planning on going to Electric Picnic this year but haven’t got your ticket yet, you might want to reevaluate your options. On Friday night news broke that left thousands of music fans very disappointed.
Electric Picnic started in 2004 as a one day event and within a year it had evolved into a full weekend of music and arts. Since its inception, it has always been popular and more often then not, tickets for the event sell out. However this year caught everyone by surprise as tickets sold out in record time. 2016 will be the largest event to date with a whopping 55,000 tickets available, all of which have been snapped up five months before it take place.
All of Ireland (myself included) was shocked that it sold out so fast. Questions as to why were the first thing to come to mind. When the lineup was announced just two weeks ago, the reaction to it was mediocre at best. Many people were also complaining about the price of the tickets. A weekend pass now costs a staggering €235!
Of course twitter captured some of the greatest reactions to the news. The majority of which featured very disappointed fans as well as few smug comments from the people who already had their tickets. Here are some of the highlights.
The cause of this is still a mystery to me. All I can say is the Irish economy must be improving because there seems to be no shortage of cash. Either that, or we will do anything to spend a weekend in a field listening to our favourite music.
